Who We Are
Bread in the Meadow is a neighborhood bakery located in Esko, Minn. We create artisan breads and pastries, selling primarily at the Carlton County Farmers Market in Cloquet from June through October and bi-weekly through our email list in winter.
Our History
When a loaf of bread sits on the counter for two months, it should mold. At least, 20-year old Elizabeth thought so. So, when it didn’t, Elizabeth decided to make her own with ingredients she knew.
After college, Elizabeth worked a few jobs – substitute teaching, marketing, and full-time teaching – but something about good bread was enticing (maybe it’s the delicious smell). In 2017, we started Bread in the Meadow out of our home kitchen under Minnesota's Cottage Food Exemption with the mission to provide good bread for our neighbors.
We are currently in the process of building a licensed bakery in Esko.

About Our Products
Some of breads are naturally leavened with sourdough; some are yeasted. All are long-fermented 7-18 hours. We incorporate both whole grains and heritage grains into our products.
We use high-quality ingredients, such as our locally sourced eggs, honey and fruit; and we strive for a balance between organic ingredients and affordability for the average family. All of the fruit used in our pastries has been grown by either ourselves or a farm local to the Twin Ports region, and we exclusively use fair-trade coffee and cocoa in our baked goods.
