Stollen

Our 1 lb Stollen hails from Elizabeth's German heritage and is based off her grandmother's stollen recipe. This is a traditional holiday bread loaded with rum-soaked raisins, Turkish apricots, figs and hand-candied citrus peels. Somewhat akin to fruitcake (although this is like comparing a croissant and a Pillsbury crescent roll) but less dense and heavy, the sweetness of the fruits contrasts well with the aromatic spices. A powdered sugar coating adds an extra touch of sweet and festiveness.
Like good wine, stollen is best when aged. This stollen will have been baked on 12/12 and is best when aged at least 10-14 days, so it will be ready to eat when you pick-up on 12/23 and will be good through the holiday season. As it ages, it will lose some of its moisture and will become firmer; this is what you want!
